Six Études for Trombone

TromBobby’s Six Études for Trombone is a deeply personal and genre-defying release that reframes the trombone through the lens of modern soul, jazz, hip-hop, and alternative music. Rather than following traditional brass etude conventions, the album draws inspiration from the emotional depth of the Soulquarians, the raw expressiveness of Otis Redding, the narrative weight of Kendrick Lamar, the sonic curiosity of Radiohead, and the jazz legacy of Roy Hargrove.

Created under strict self-imposed limitations, which include no drums, no synthesizers, and no sampling, this project strips TromBobby’s sound down to its core, allowing the trombone to exist as both a melodic and expressive lead voice. Acoustic guitar, bass, and vocal textures subtly support the instrument, creating a warm, organic environment that feels otherworldly.

Beyond the recording itself, Six Études for Trombone functions as an open musical resource. The full sheet music, individual etudes, and practice/sampling tracks are freely available, with explicit permission for producers and beatmakers to sample and manipulate the material without royalties. Positioned between academic contribution and contemporary music culture, the album stands as a rare bridge between the classroom, the studio, and the broader listening community.
