Dani Catalá, born into a musical family in Alicante, has been immersed in the world of music since birth. Both of his parents are musicians, with his father serving as a choir director and his mother excelling as a classical singer. As a child, Dani participated in gospel performances alongside his parents’ chorus while receiving classical training at the conservatory. Despite his passion for music, Dani encountered challenges as a classical pianist, as the nature of the discipline often limited collaborative opportunities with orchestras and larger ensembles, leading to a somewhat solitary existence. In search of a means to share his music with others, Dani embarked on a journey to learn jazz, ultimately enabling him to engage in musical collaborations and explore his spontaneous creativity.
Embracing his newfound freedom, Dani Catalá thrives on playing whatever melodies flow through his mind, eschewing the confines of rigid instruction. He is a prominent member of the band “Orjazzmic,” deeply inspired by the influential Snarky Puppy. Together, they released an EP and embarked on a tour across Spain. Their outstanding talent earned them national recognition, as they emerged as winners in the esteemed international competition “Emergenza” in 2016, subsequently representing Spain at the renowned Taubertal Fest in Germany.
