“I’ve been fortunate to have many opportunities to create music in different styles recently, but at times I’ve felt like something was missing. That feeling led me to make a collection of beats exploring the kind of sound I personally want to create and listen to. I completed most of the project within a week, following my instincts and letting the ideas flow naturally. I often make beats with the intention of having a rapper or singer perform over them, but this time I wanted to create pure instrumentals that could stand on their own as a complete listening experience.”

Tokyo-based DJ and producer TOSHIKI HAYASHI(%C) returns to Stereofox Records with The Self I Seek EP – a fresh collection of jazz and hip-hop-soaked instrumentals exploring his most authentic sound yet.
Following the success of his previous Pattern Select EP, the producer turns inwards, letting instinct guide the creative process and pursuing the sound that brings him the truest sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and creative fulfilment. Rather than following a set formula, the EP reflects a more natural approach to making music – trusting his ear and allowing each track to develop on its own terms.
Dusty grooves, intricate guitar and keyboard work, and a warm vintage-style production showcase Toshiki’s affinity for nostalgia and appreciation for the sounds of the past, while sunny grooves and uplifting melodies bring a sense of warmth and hope to the collection.

TOSHIKI HAYASHI (%C) is a Tokyo-based DJ, beatmaker, and music producer. Rooted in hip-hop, he creates music across a wide range of genres, including instrumental beats, City Pop, and R&B. He has produced and remixed music for artists such as iri, SKRYU, and chelmico, as well as Tokimeki Records and CBS, contributing his works across both major and independent scenes. In addition, he performs nationwide as the support live DJ for the rap duo chelmico.
