Dan Gregory
Dan Gregory is a Cape Town producer and multi-instrumentalist working across lo-fi and ambient music, shaped as much by South African jazz and the rhythms of home as by downtempo electronic production in the lineage of Thievery Corporation and Air.
His sound is unhurried and tape-warm, built from analogue synths, organic percussion, horns and silky guitar, with subtle dub elements woven into instrumental grooves made for focus and calm. Alongside the beats sits a quieter singer-songwriter thread, where the same warm sonic palette carries full songs as naturally as it does grooves.
Working both solo and as one third of Mamba Boyz, Dan brings his music off the record and into the room with live beat sets – building and playing his productions out live rather than pressing play. Whether producing, writing, collaborating or performing live, he favours an instinctive, collaborative approach, leaving space for the give-and-take of the moment to shape the final result.
