‘keeping close’ was shaped by a year of major changes: moving across continents, navigating extended time away from my partner, and finding ways to stay connected. Two of the tracks came from a time of us being together and two from being apart, which gives the EP a balance of intimacy and longing. I returned to my roots in hip hop rhythms while exploring new textures built by reworking fragments of my older songs and demos. That process of turning my old tracks into something new brought familiarity and comfort, easing the weight of the blank canvas. To me, the project is equal parts reflective and forward-looking, rooted in memory while excited about the future.

US producer HOUNDTRACK returns to Stereofox Records for his 5th release – the 4-track EP keeping close. A long-time collaborator & friend of the label (first appeared back in 2020 with Cul de Sac), he continues to craft a distinct sound sitting at the crossroads of chill electronic, downtempo, and melodic bass – for the fans of artists like Laxcity, Medasin, and ford.
Born out of a period of change and movement, keeping close carries both closeness and distance. Its sound blends warm atmospheres with evolving grooves, bridging HOUNDTRACK’s hip hop roots with reimagined fragments of older sketches, reshaped into something fresh and forward-looking.
The project will have two upfront singles – “stuck in a memory” and “violets!”.
